Richard Miller, a recent veteran of program review, will discuss the ins and outs of the new program review system. Particular emphasis will be placed on modifying our internal evaluation instruments to work in programs that do not report to an outside accreditation agency. This session is open to everyone, but all program directors and department heads are especially encouraged to attend.

Einstein on Bowling, Digital Cameras and Double Vision

Practically everyone has heard of Einstein and his “Theory of Relativity.” But did you know that Einstein was famous for much more than relativity? In fact, in 1905 Einstein published 3 papers that helped change some very basic assumptions about the physical world and only one of these papers had anything to do with relativity! Hands-on demonstrations and non-technical discussion related to Einstein’s 1905 papers will be presented.

CD Burning: The Basics

As new (and re-assigned) computers arrive on (and under) our desks so does the ability to “burn” CD’s. This class will provide an introduction to the process of creating a compact disk (CD). These high capacity disks provide the ability to back up large amounts of data, make copies of valuable disks (archive copies), and many other uses.

Three Mathematical Proofs Everyone Should Know

To a mathematician, nothing is more beautiful than an elegant proof. In this talk we’ll consider the Pythagorean Theorem, the fact that the square root of 2 can not be written as a fraction, and the fact that there are an infinite number of prime numbers. All of the proofs are short. The proof of the Pythagorean Theorem is hands-on, so bring a pair of scissors.

How can we supply all of our students with the information we want them to have without killing more trees? Instructional CD’s can contain all of the handouts we may want our students to have. The structure and contents of these disks will be discussed as well as how to have these disks duplicated for students.
