Group Work and Active, Collaborative, and
Cooperative Learning

Research proves that students absorb and retain more information in a classroom setting when they actively participate in the learning process.  Active, collaborative, and cooperative learning techniques engage students in course material and allow them to teach and learn from one another in addition to working with the course instructor.  The Teaching-Learning Center, with support from a grant from the Carl D. Perkins Foundation, sponsored presentations by area experts on Active Learning and Group Work during the 2001-2002 academic year.  Durham Tech faculty also contributed their research and ideas in articles in the TLC’s journal, "Learning Matters."
