Learning Styles

Some students respond best to visual stimuli such as handouts, overhead projections, and writing on the board at the front of the classroom.  Others need to hear a concept (sometimes multiples times) to remember it.  Instructors can respond to the different learning styles and needs of students by becoming aware of these styles and incorporating various dissemination techniques into their courses.  With funding from a Carl D. Perkins Foundation grant, the Teaching-Learning Center at Durham Tech sponsored a workshop by Dr. David Covington of N.C. State on understanding and working with students’ different learning styles.  Highlights and resources from Dr. Covington’s workshop are listed on this site.
