In
Fall 2002, Durham Technical Community College was awarded a Technology
Enhancement Grant from the North Carolina Community College System.
The grant funds were used to equip a classroom on campus (room 904)
with a computer and ceiling-mounted data projector and to provide
training for faculty on enhancing face-to-face instruction with
online techniques. Throughout the Spring 2003 semester, various
workshops were presented for faculty, including sessions on using
the computer and projector, presenting with PowerPoint, working
with computer graphics, and creating web pages with Dreamweaver
MX.
In connection with the grant, the Teaching-Learning Center sponsored
a roundtable forum on April 8, 2003. Twelve faculty members convened
in room 904 to see the new equipment, to learn about the grant,
and most importantly, to share their experiences and ideas about
using technology in the classroom. The ideas generated during the
roundtable session have been compiled into a web page of "best
practices" for integrating technology in the classroom
from some of Durham Tech’s faculty.
