The Visual Text Box Editor allows fancy text formatting in certain areas of Blackboard. But it can cause HUGE problems when taking tests!

To avoid problems when taking tests on Blackboard, we strongly recommend that students set their Visual Text Box Editor option to "unavailable". (Each Blackboard user can set his/her Visual Text Box Editor option to "available" or "unavailable".)

Note: For most students, the Visual Text Box Editor is "unavailable" by default. However, if your student Blackboard account was created at the start of Summer 2008 semester, you need to manually set your Visual Text Box Editor option to "unavailable".

To set the Visual Text Box Editor option to "unavailable":

  • On the main Blackboard "Welcome" screen (just after logging in), click "Personal Information" (on the left, inside the TOOLS box)
  • Click "Set Visual Text Box Editor Options"
  • Set Availability to "Unavailable"
  • Click SUBMIT
